Hi, I upgraded from win 7 pro to 10. My laptop worked fine for weeks, then refused to start windows one morning. I tried the repairs available (advanced options, etc). I then downloaded the ISO file for win 10, that contains all the win 10 versions, I retrieved the win 10 pro product key from my drive, but during the win 10 installation it says the the key is invalid. Can anyone advise me, please. Thank you.
A product riddled with problems.When an update of windows TEN is done,some of my progremmes simply disappear.On windows 8 I never had any problems whatsoever.The latest problem .I cannot link to my printer. Got an expert in at great cost,he managed the link but as soon as the computer is switched off,that`s it,no more link.My ONLY alternative now is to go back to windows 8 until your team sort out all the crap on the system.
Windows 8 Change Product Key Non Core Edition
I previously had a windows 7 home premium original copy which I did bought spending my money. It worked well. After win 10 launch I could successfully upgrade to windows 10 and the copy got activated automatically. There were talks around saying Microsoft is giving away free windows activation this time. So i made a USB copy of windows 10 PRO in to my flash drive and I DID A CLEAN INSTALL FROM THAT VERY COPY. Now I have Windows 10 PRO not activated. I cannot activate this using my windows 7 home premium product key. PLEASE HELP!
I have a new build pic and have had trouble installing Windows 10. I resolved the issue with making a bootable disk to to the Windows install. My college offers a free Windows 10 education edition so I got the product key and it keeps saying invalid product key. Not sure where to go from here.

Actually Windows 10 setup automatically detects the edition type of previously installed Windows version in your computer and then it installs the corresponding edition of Windows 10. For example, if you had Windows 7 Home or Windows 8/8.1 core edition installed in your computer previously, Windows 10 setup will automatically install Windows 10 core (Home) edition in your computer.
I had this excact issue during a clean install. However if you have a 10 Pro product key you are saved.After Windows 10 is installed and you see a Home edition. Apply a change product key procedure with your Windows 10 Pro product key. Windows then surged the web and installs al 10 Pro extras. When completed a full Windows 10 Pro edition is on you PC.
There is an easier way, when you are installing windows during a clean install, Click that you dont have a product key, then it gives you the option to chose which Windows you want to install. Then add the product key after installing Windows.
I just had to go through this; I created the bootable USB media, and chose just to create the PID.txt file under the Sources directory, using my Win 7 Pro key in the format that zkteh mentions above. That one change was enough to get it to install as the Win 10 Pro version, instead of reading the Win 8.1 standard key that is in the BIOS and installing the Home edition instead.
If you are trying to upgrade an OEM laptop (like from best-buy or something) that came with windows 10 home to windows 10 pro and you have a product key, this is for you. I could not upgrade to windows 10 pro because of error 0xc004f014 (could not reach windows activation servers), this was the final fix that worked for me since it was a new PC with nothing on it (that I was doing a clean install on anyways). This saved me! Had a dell i purchased that came with 10 home, and purchased along with it a copy of 10 pro oem. When i installed from the disk that came with the 10 pro oem, it installed home. MS support COULD NOT HELP ME with this. They INSISTED (during 2nd call) that they can change it to pro, but first time I called, they were unable to. Going to the store and upgrading DID NOT WORK. Changing product key form windows activation setting page DID NOT WORK. Told MS that this does not work, and that I needed an install disk that either asks what version to install, or just installs pro. They COULD NOT HELP ME. Told me I could get that disk from manufacturer. Dell media creation tool only has HOME ISO for this computer, as it came with home.
