I'm building a Facebook messenger bot in Python. And everything works fine. But if I send emojis as text from Facebook chat to API, then it goes wrong. This is an example when I send emojis from Facebook.
To send an animated GIF in a chat or channel message, just select GIF beneath the box. Use the search bar at the top of the window to look for something specific (like "cats playing piano") or browse the collection of popular GIFs. Once you've inserted the GIF you want, select Send .
To send a meme or sticker in a chat or channel, select Sticker beneath the box. If you select Popular, you'll see a collection of the most commonly used memes and stickers. But what I get is the literal string "(Y)" and not the graphical equivalent. Do I have to send it in unicode or something like that? I'm guessing the graphical interpretation is up to the chat client (I'm chatting from the hangouts widget inside the gmail inbox page).
I am writing a basic bot using botkit.js for facebook messenger. I need to be able to send a string of emojis. FB API just requires a UTF8 string. So I was able to get some emojis to work by wrapping the string in unescape. However, this doesn't work for all emojis.
My question was passed along to someone on the Facebook Messenger API team. The short answer is this. While facebook messenger supports the emoji's, the API does not. So while you can use them in normal chat, when you try to use them via the API they get stripped out. So currently, it is not possible because of that limitation.
