So, I've got the combination game of C&C Generals with and without Zero Hour on Origin, however the game is pretty (really) old and doesn't work well with modern hardware so I want to run it in windowed mode.
Well my problem that I've had since the begining of this discussion with either generals or zero hour is that if I start either game with Dxwnd default settings, both "appear" to startup just fine in Dxwnd; however, both games bypass the dxwnd windowed mode setting. Therefore Starting directly into fullscreen mode instead of dxwnd windowed mode.
command and conquer generals windowed mode
If you want windowed mode you should set "Hook / Inject suspended process". Here the two exported configurations. But to me something isn't working properly yet: while Generals starts now both in native mode and with DxWnd, the Zero Hour expansion starts and works when alone and starts windowed but crashes when controlled by DxWnd!
IT WORKED!!! Time to spread the word to all ye C&C Generals Zero Hour fans that absolutely need the game running in windowed mode with mouse view controls functionable: Dxwnd is the BEST and gho is the great man of the decade... HOORAY!!!
As of August 2022 the game remains playable on modern Windows versions with some major technical hiccups that can be worked around; issues like errors when staring the game, DRM issues and serial key errors. A tool called GenPatcher was created by the community to more easily fix these issues, restore command line support for the Origin/EA app version, add modern resolution support and apply various fixes and improvements. The macOS version however was delisted from the Mac App Store in May 2020.
The Sims 4 can be played in windowed mode or full screen mode. Windowed mode performs better on some systems, and can be activated from the in-game menu by going to the menu (the ... in the top right), going to Game Options, and then Graphics. Select Display Type: Windowed. If your game is crashing at start-up or you are seeing a black or white screen and then you are unable to play, you may want to try starting the game in Windowed mode instead. You can do so by following these instructions:
Been doing some rewrites to the launchers with one of the new features adding windowed mode support and more custom resolutions. This should also fix the DirectX 8.0 errors on startup that some users have experienced.
I have this strange problem where I can run CnC generals/ Zero Hour in Windowed mode but when I run in full screen mode it automatically minimizes. I am operating on win 10 using the AMd r9 270x. I am playing on the tfd 1.03 rev4 patched versions of CnC generals and zero hour. Is there any way you guys could assist me? I had the same problem with CnC3 but I fixed it when I launched in Windowed mode.
I've been searching forums all day. maybe I missed it, but how did you get c&c generals / zh working at all on w10? ive done the dx9 files and unofficial patch, and the game wont start. after running compatibility mode, all I get is a "serious error."
The Steam overlay in FTL does not function as it is not a 3D accelerated game. Because of this the desktop notifications will be visible. If playing in fullscreen, therefore, these notifications in some systems may steal focus and revert you back to windowed mode with no way of going back to fullscreen without relaunching. The binaries for FTL on Steam have no DRM and it is possible to run the game without Steam running, so in some cases that may be optimum - just ensure that you launch FTL via the launcher script in GAME/data/ rather than the FTL binary in the $arch directory.
Besides the fixing of palette-related bugs, CnC-DDraw also contains options that allow extra game features like windowed mode, stretching of the game surface to custom resolutions, and frame rate limiting.
2. If you encounter Black Screen of Death, you can try the following:-If you are having two monitors, unplug one and it will be fine.-If you still encounter the same problem, try running the game in windowed mode.
I am not computer friendly at all I tried understanding your description on how to make command and conquer work on windows 7 but I can't figure it out, I have a HP Pavilion dv7-4280us Entertainment PC and I just wanna figure out how I can play the game I tried EA support but they pretty much told me I was SOL. HELP PLEASE! I bought the game command and Conquer the first decade if it makes any difference.
My issue was when I changed the options.ini I couldn't update the program. (remember to install direct x) 1. I needed to do a clean Reinstall of command and conquer generals. 2. Updated the Command and Conquer game with it's patches (and dont play the game yet). 3. got rid of the read only and Changed the compatibility to Windows XP service pack 3 and always run as administrator (make sure all users can make changes). 4. opened the options.ini, then pressed the Save as button to All Files. Then typed in options.ini
There is some possible workaround for this issue without dgVoodoo, although it still doesn't survive alt-tabbing using it:1-The game runs ok under "800x600" and "1024x768" resolutions.2-The game is ok while running it in borderless windowed mode.
Besides the fixing of palette-related bugs, CnC-DDraw also contains options that allow extra game features like windowed mode, stretching of the game surface to custom resolutions, and frame rate limiting. It also allows for loading custom glsl shaders for features such as Smooth upscaling.
It is common and "normal" behavior in windowed mode, and it depends on the resolution that you are using. So you might get this problem in some resolutions, but the good news is that you can still start the game. You have to try to click the different buttons and even from somewhere off the screen where there isn't any buttons.
The default configuration should be fine with modern systems. You are able to just start the game and play. By default the game starts on fullscreen mode, but later you can configure it to run on a windowed mode with a chosen resolution. The default location to store files for configuration, preferences, savegames and others is the .wesnoth folder under your HOME directory, but you don't need to edit these files manually because all configuration can be done within the game. 2ff7e9595c
